On the subject of Derpy

This is something I posted on Facebook, but I'd like to repeat it here.

I think Derpy holds a very special spot in the fandom's collective heart. In essence, she's the Everypony. She's not brightly colored or stylishly coiffed. She's not intelligent and well connected like Twilight, nor beautiful like Rarity. She doesn't have Applejack's strength and work ethic, nor Fluttershy's cuteness, Rainbow Dash's flashy assertiveness nor Pinkie Pie's strange, unpredictable abilities. She doesn't come out winning every challenge. Mostly she just observes from the periphery and stumbles along the best she can. Derpy stands in for all of us, and actually hearing her speak was a special gift to be cherished, even if only for the short time we had it.

I'm thankful to the Hasbro for letting us have her, and I will take every opportunity to express that to them.
